Job description
The solventless lab tech will report to and work side by side with Green Thumb’s VP, Cultivation Operations. In this role you will be directly responsible for developing and implementing solventless cannabis extraction processes and supporting the development of solventless products across a variety of applications. You are responsible for creating safe, stable and compliant products that are scalable within the GTI business structure. The role will have core accountability for start-up, process troubleshooting and training of teams to produce solventless materials and products. Green Thumb is growing fast, and as our first Solventless Process Developer, you will be tasked with leading the evolving demands of our fast-paced environment. You must have constant curiosity, and an insatiable desire to create, innovate, teach and expand the GTI solventless category of products.
Responsibilities
- Conduct process equipment and set-up assessments, determining the appropriate capital to deploy for a sustainable and scalable solventless production system
- Serve as a subject matter expert to commission systems, document process, train team members to run process and audit results.
- Key subject matter expert to support quality assessments of solventless outputs. Able to audit, guide, teach and coach teams to properly use systems and produce product and intermediaries.
- Work directly with engineering and procurement to identify and secure appropriate equipment and tools.
- Support project engineering in proper system development and set-up to enable flawless project assembly and execution.
- Conduct experimental design, and system assessments to produce best in market product quality
- Key subject matter expert in supporting system scaling and increasing throughput as market and product demand grows
- Collaborate frequently with a cross-functional team, including but not limited to, production site teams, operations leaders, cultivation staff, project managers, product developers, engineering, maintenance, quality, finance, lab teams and brand managers from concept thru commercialization of products
- Partner internally with cultivation, operations and planning to source the best flower to produce the products and intermediaries
- Accurately develop all SOPs and training aids required for process documentation and training
- Follow all safety requirements, ie GMP, PPE, etc
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Deep expertise in the specialty area of solventless extraction with a proven track record of successful implementation
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in solventless extraction processes and product development
- Prior development experience in a cannabis production setting
- Prior experience supporting solventless product for consumer consumption
- Ability to plan, develop, scale, and problem solve.
- Ability to lead and manage multiple projects
- Capability of troubleshooting, fixing, and servicing equipment and systems required for solventless extraction and product creation
- Knowledge of operations best practices and GMP
- Must be detail oriented with strong organizational skills
- Must be able to multi-task and produce results.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with coworkers and management
- Familiarity with OSHA guidelines for safe operation
- Understanding & adhering to applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations as they pertain to the industry, safety regulations, local municipal codes and organizational rules, regulations, directives and standard operating procedures.
Additional Requirements:
- Active driver’s license or State ID card.
- Must be a minimum of 21 years of age.
- Must pass all required background checks.
- Must be and remain compliant with all legal or company regulations for working in the industry
- Must be approved by the state regulators to receive & maintain an Agent badge in markets where process is deployed
- This position will require flexibility in working hours that may extend beyond typical working hours.
Working Conditions:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to perform grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions on the production floor and in the conditions of the production setting
Physical demands – May be required to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift, carry and balance up to 50 pounds (200 pounds with assistance)
