Job description
We are looking for a talented Social Media & Content Manager with some cannabis industry knowledge to generate content and build our social media accounts in the Massachusetts area. This is new internal role and will be responsible for creating original content, managing posts/stories and responding to followers in a way that is in line with our brand voice and guidelines.
This role will support the Northeast regional social media and content efforts, which consist of several retail brands and product brands. We are a vertically integrated cannabis Multi-State Operator (MSO) with cannabis dispensaries in Maryland (medical), New York (medical), New Jersey (medical), and Massachusetts (medical and recreational). There are strict compliance and regulatory concerns that differ in each state. This role is responsible for ensuring that we are compliant for cannabis social media while creating compelling content that builds a highly engaged follower community in each of our markets. There will be a mix of original content for each different brand as well as content that can be replicated for use among all of the brands.
Ultimately, you should be able to handle our social media presence ensuring high levels of engagement, driving web traffic and building brand awareness.
Responsibilities:
- Set benchmarks and KPIs for each brand, based on research and industry best practices
- Ideate, design and implement social media campaigns to align with goals, promotional schedule and business objectives
- Generate, edit, publish and share engaging cannabis content (original copy, contests, photos, videos, news, etc)
- Replicate and expand original content into blog posts for our brand websites
- Cultivate a loyal social community for each of our brands
- Report on metrics and ROI, monitor SEO and web traffic metrics
- Leverage data to build our social media strategy on an ongoing basis
- Collaborate with our cultivation, production and retail facilities to get original content
- Work with compliance and legal teams to ensure all content is compliant
- Identify suitable influencers as brand partners
- Communicate with followers in proper brand voice, respond to queries in a timely manner and monitor customer reviews
- Stay up to date on industry trends to determine appropriate content that promotes culture relevance and consumer education to overcome buying objections in advance with accurate, factual information.
- Stay up-to-date with current technologies and trends in social media, determine how to apply them to our business
- Perform competitor analysis and market research with top brands in the industry
- Ensure we are positioned on the best platforms for our business (currently Instagram and Facebook)
- Position our brands as subject matter experts in the cannabis space
Experience Required:
- 2+ years of experience managing consumer product or retail brand(s) on social media
- Understanding of how to speak to consumers and build knowledge-based content
- Deep knowledge of the preferred content types for each social media platform
- Cannabis industry/product knowledge; the ability to speak to common cannabis topics (strains, cannabinoid, terpenes, etc)
- Inquisitive nature to aid in continually building engaging content in this fast-paced industry and for highly informed consumers
- Understanding of cannabis industry best practices, ability to comply with differing regulations in each market
- Familiarity with content management systems, web page analytics, customer relationship management, etc.
- Data analysis, critical thinking, problem-solving and decision-making
- Creativity, adaptability and familiar with current marketing trends
- Effective writing, speaking, presenting and active listening skills
