Job description
The Compliance Manager for Bud's Goods & Provisions is responsible for overseeing and managing the compliance operations for all of the company's retail-licensed Massachusetts locations. This role works closely with the Director of Compliance to ensure that all aspects of the compliance program are functioning effectively, and that all licenses, departments, operations, and records are in compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations at all times.
The Compliance Manager will be responsible for conducting internal audits of the company's licensed locations to identify potential compliance risks and deficiencies. They will work with site managers to develop and implement remediation plans as needed to correct any deficiencies that are identified. The Compliance Manager will also work closely with the Director of Retail and Human Resources department to ensure that compliance issues are being addressed effectively and that all employees are aware of their compliance obligations. The Compliance Manager oversees the incident reports from the licensed locations and ensures all information is accurate and presentable prior to submission. The Compliance Manager will be responsible for staying up-to-date with industry regulations and changes in legislation and will work with the Director of Compliance to ensure that the company is in compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.
The Compliance Manager collaborates with the Director of Retail on audit schedules and results for the retails and collaborates with the Director of Production for the manufacturing site. Any deficiencies discovered during these audits will be corrected by the site managers with support from the Compliance Manager.
The Compliance Manager reports to the Director of Compliance and works closely with all department managers. This role has a desk located at Bud's Goods's Worcester office, however there is travel required to visit each retail-licensed Massachusetts location on a weekly basis for audit, compliance correction, training or fact-finding.
- Responsible for monitoring the processes and procedures of all retail-licensed Massachusetts premises of the Company to ensure that all sites are operating in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations at all times
- Identify potential compliance deficiencies and recommend a corrective action plan for resolution as well as provide guidance on how to avoid or address potential similar situations in the future
- Respond to compliance questions and concerns from site and department managers
- Keep current with local, state, and federal regulations as they pertain to the licenses and operations of the Company's retail-licensed Massachusetts locations
- Coach all employees on compliance procedures as needed for their growth
- Work with department manager to ensure the SOP's related to their duties are current
- Report compliance deficiencies or potential risks to the Director of Compliance
- Assist in any recall and/or health/public safety issues and work with senior leadership to develop and execute a corrective plan
- Audit and confirm all sites are up to date with Life Safety including fire systems inspections
- Oversee how other managers communicate incident reports to the Cannabis Control Commission
- Perform compliance audits at each licensed location on a regular schedule
- Audit inventory records for consistency, accuracy, and proper storage, including waste records and Metrc manifests
- Audit the recordkeeping of employee files for compliance with professional references, CORI reports, training confirmations, employee reviews, and safety reviews
- Audit the logs of all licensed premises of the Company for compliance including, but not limited to waste logs, visitor logs, sale return logs, Metrc tag adjustments, and accounting logs
- Ensure Metrc is current with employees at each licensed location
- Audit to ensure all employees who are authorized to receive and create Metrc manifests are properly trained and understand the importance of all the details required for compliance with regard to transport manifests
- Review all Inventory Audit reports with the store manager and Director of Retail
- Assist the site managers with providing compliance training to their teams
- Observe and audit the waste procedures at each location to ensure both safety and to provide support for efficient compliance
- Assist as needed to keep all locations caught up on inventory investigations
- Audit each location's Quarantine lockers and ensure all products in Quarantine are being appropriately handled and logged
- Assist the Director of Compliance with coordinating license inspections and investigations.
- Perform compliance training for all Bud's employees as well as refreshers and updates as needed to prevent potential future compliance risks
- Keep current all compliance standard operating procedures per state specific regulations
- Assist the Creative Manager with compliance and labeling for Bud's brand products and other products which Bud's manages our own packaging and labeling
- Oversee the investigations into inventory, sales, and cash/debits issues as requested by Bud's Financial Controller
- Coordinate with local and state regulators regarding compliance inspections and/or investigations
- Coordinate all reporting channels to communicate compliance issues and ensure employees are properly trained and using the proper channels for communication of compliance issues
- This role travels to the Company's retail locations on a regular basis

Experience and Education
- Ideally Bachelor's degree of relative discipline or 2-years of compliance management
- Must have a solid understanding of the Cannabis laws, rules and regulations and passion to further their understanding and knowledge of the industry, regulations, market trends and competition
- Experience and training in Metrc cannabis tracking software
- Experience with Dutchie or similar POS systems
- Possesses a high level of critical thinking
- Adapts and thrives in a demanding, fast-paced environment
- Operates with an elevated level of professionalism and integrity, including dealing with confidential information
- Possesses adequate knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices
